About us
The Museo Xul Solar is a space dedicated to preserving, disseminating, and promoting the work of Alejandro Xul Solar —one of the most visionary artists of the twentieth century — and his legacy in Argentine art, literature, and thought. The museum seeks to bring the life and creative universe of Xul Solar to broad audiences, fostering dialogue among art, language, spirituality, and utopia. Through its collection, exhibitions, and educational programs, the museum encourages reflection on the artistic innovation and interdisciplinary thinking that defined the artist's work.
Oscar Agustín Alejandro Schulz Solari
Xul Solar (1887–1963), born Oscar Agustín Alejandro Schulz Solari in San Fernando, was a visionary Argentine artist: painter, musician, and thinker. From 1912 to 1924 he lived in Europe, where he absorbed the leading avant-garde movements of the time. Upon returning to Buenos Aires, he became part of the Martín Fierro literary circle, formed close friendships with Jorge Luis Borges and Emilio Pettoruti, and developed a singular universe at the intersection of art, language, and spirituality. He invented neocriollo and panlengua, created Panchess (Panajedrez), and developed his grafías plastiútiles (pictographic scripts). His home at Laprida 1212 is today the Museo Xul Solar, keeper of his legacy.
